Finasteride vs LLLT for hair loss.

Hair loss typically occurs in most men. In fact, around two thirds of men will experience some form of hair loss by the time they reach the age of 40.

As things currently stand, there is no cure for common hair loss types such as male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia), but there are a select few treatments that can help prevent excessive hair fall, and even support the function of healthy hair growth.

So what is Finasteride?

Finasteride, sold under the brand names Proscar and Propecia among many others, is a medication used to treat hair loss and benign prostatic hyperplasia in men. It can also be used to treat excessive hair growth in women and as a part of hormone therapy for transgender women.

Finasteride is the only medically approved orally taken treatment for hair loss. It is primarily used to treat male pattern baldness. Finasteride is seen to be an effective drug for treating hair loss, however, there is the risk of negative side-effects.

What is LLLT ( low level light therapy) ?

LLLT is designed to prevent excessive hair fall in men (and women) who suffer from early stages of baldness and thinning hair. This non-medical hair loss treatment has a success rate of 86% in male users.

There are no major side-effects associated LLLT and is a safe and effective alternative to medical treatments and drugs, such as finasteride.

What is the difference between Finasteride and LLLT ?

Finasteride is a drug, therefore users would need a medical prescription to access it.

Also finasteride does come with risk of major negative side-effects.

LLLT provides you with a safe and easy-to-use method to prevent hair loss progression and restore thinning hair due to genetics. The Lasercaps 272 features 272 5mW laser diodes that provide great coverage in just 30 minute sessions. This non-invasive low-level laser therapy comes with a long-lasting, rechargeable lithium-ion battery for hands-free operation while receiving treatment for healthier-looking hair.

What are the negative side-effects from taking Finasteride?

Finasteride has long been associated with many negative side-effects, the most common of which include:

  • decreased sex drive

  • trouble getting or keeping an erection

  • ejaculation disorder

  • increase in breast size and tenderness

  • skin rash

  • headaches

  • depression

  • fatigue

  • feminisation

What are the negative side-effects from LLLT ?

LLLT is a safe and natural solution to treat hair loss however, in very rare cases, some slight negative side-effects can occur. When you first using LLLT and they:

  • slight dryness to the scalp

  • Tightness feel to the scalp

  • dizziness upon first use

What to realistically expect from using Finasteride.

There is no question that finasteride can definitely help reduce hair loss in men who suffer from early stages of male pattern baldness, with a 9 out of 10 success rate, however, this pill should not be mistaken as a cure for baldness and remember it’s a prescription drug.

Finasteride does not promote hair growth, or regrow hair, however, it can demonstrate promising hair growth results when used in conjunction with the topical solution, minoxidil.

As effective as finasteride can be for reducing hair loss, it does come with the high risks of negative side-effects, which many men would prefer to avoid.

What to realistically expect from using LLLT ?

With continued use, LLLT can help reduce hair loss and support the function of healthy hair growth in men suffering from early stages of male pattern baldness. Some men notice visible improvements in their hair within just weeks.

LLLT restores the very fine hairs and create regrowth hair only if the follicles are still active of course. Only then will it support healthier, thicker, and faster hair growth. Users can also experience excellent results when using LLLT in conjunction with an effective topical solution.

Many men use LLLT as a safe alternative to medical treatments like finasteride. That way, you do not ever need to compromise on your health and wellbeing from using LLLT.

Finasteride or LLLT What is more effective?

Because neither finasteride and LLLT are cures for hair loss, it is difficult to determine which of the two is more effective for treating hair loss. Results tend to vary from person to person, but statistics show that both products come with an 80%+ success rate.

What is the cheaper option?

Depending on where you purchase it from, finasteride is generally seen to be the cheaper of the two hair loss treatments. Expect to pay anything between £16-£25 a month for finasteride.  LLLT will cost more in the beginning, but it’s much cheaper in the long term, as our LLLT units last for 20,000 hours of use or 10 years or more, but it is a safer, non-medical option.

Conclusion

If you need a solution for early stages of male pattern baldness, then finasteride and LLLT are you best bets. Finasteride is a medically approved drug option, whereas LLLT is the safer option to take. Which one is better? Well, it really depends on what works best for you, individually.

If you don't mind the risks, then finasteride could be worth a try, but if you want to completely avoid putting drugs into your body, then LLLT is an excellent, drug-free alternative.
